There are 3 types of growing goats or sheep.
1. Allow the goats to graze all day and then keep all the goats in the shelter after evening.
2. Allow the goats to graze for few hours and then feed the goats in the shelter during the evening times.
3. Full time growing in the stall fed environment.
Due to the exposure to sunlight, rain, in the 1st type, the disease attack is more which can be avoided to great extent by growing in the stall fed environment.
In the stall fed type, cost of labor is minimum.
In the stall fed, installation of the shed is very important. Shed should be in the East-West direction. This is to avoid direct sunlight. Height of the stall should be at least 1 meter from the ground level. Height of the shed should be at least 15 feet from the stall. So, the total height of the shed is 1 meter plus 15 feet that is 18 feet. The distance between the reapers should be between 1.5 cm to 2 cm.
Space for female goat is 12 sq.ft and for male goat 15 sq.ft. Plan the shed according to the number of goats.
Feeding tray and water tray should be placed inside the shed. Length of the tray can be 5 to 6 feet long and 1 feet deep. Place the tray above 1 feet. This is avoid the urine and dung falling into the tray.
Feed is divided into four parts.

About Diseases:
Vottoni (meaning pullukkal):
Aga Vottoni (Endo-parasitic diseases): Disease within the body. There are 3 types of vottouni:
1. Vurundaipullouzh (Roundworm) - Causes Vayitrupokku, rath-tha-swagai, reduced body weight,
2. Thattaipullouzh (Flatworm) - Mostly in goats that graze outside, near lakes, ponds. One type affects liver, other type affects stomach,
3. Naadapullozh (Tapeworm) - Affects small intestine for mother goats causing Vayitrupokku, rath-tha-swagai.
Doing kudharpuzzhu neekam is important to eliminate. Few farmers do this and few don't. Usually farmers go to a doctor for eliminating the disease which will eliminate one of the 3 type of disease caused by the worms. There is a chart for eliminating the worms.
1. After 15 days a goat had given birth, Albandazol should be given. After 1 month, fibrozin, after 3 months phenbendazol, after 6 months levemaezol, after 9 months phenbendazol, after 12 months oxiclosanite. After 12 months, repeat the same after 2 months interval.
Pura Vottoni (Ecto-parasitic infestation): Diseases outside the body caused by ticks, lice. Symptoms are skin allergy, reduced growth, wounds. Keep the shed clean to avoid diseases caused due to Ecto-parasitic infestation.

Diseases:
PPR for goats. Komari disease, thullumari disease, Adaipaan, thondai-adai-paan,
Few diseases can be prevented before the disease attack. If PPR disease is attacked then it spreads to all other goats and thereby killing all the other goats. Vaccinate for PPR, Komari disease, thullumari disease once the goat has reached 3 or 4 months. This will arrest the disease.
Once you have done the vaccination, eliminated the worm disease problems and supplied enough minerals to the goats along with good feeding system then you can expect good returns.
